Terminalia bellerica is commonly known as Bibhitaki or Baheda, it is one of the important herbs in Ayurveda. This is one of the three herbs used in the Ayurvedic formulation Triphala.
This medicinal deciduous tree belongs to the Combretaceae family, its native is tropical Asia including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and China. In Ayurveda, this herb is commonly used to treat constipation, pharyngitis, and cold.
It has a sour and bitter taste and hot potency. Due to the chemical compound present in this herb, it has antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiarrheal, hepatoprotective, anti-hypertensive, and antipyretic properties.
